Sarah Jessica Parker in Elle Magazine

Sarah Jessica Parker may be known for her fashionista alter-ego, Carrie Bradshaw, but this working mother revels in the realities of everyday life with her son James, 7, and twin daughters Marion Loretta and Tabitha Hodge. She recently talked about her upcoming film Sex & the City 2 and life in her family in the December issue of Elle magazine.

Some highlights from the interview:

On her decision to use a surrogate to carry her twin daughters:
“I knew there would be lots of opinions about, ‘Well, why didn’t you adopt? Why didn’t you do this? Why didn’t you do that?’ and the truth of the matter is, it wasn’t one or the other for us. We had explored, and continue to explore all options, and this one just happened first. This isn’t the period at the end of the sentence.”

On being a hands-on mom:
“I love the smell of diapers; I even like when they’re wet and you smell them all warm liked a baked good. I love the smell of Balmex. Love it.”

On rumors of on-set friction with her Sex and the City co-star Kim Cattrall:
“I don’t think anybody wants to believe that I love Kim. I adore her. I wouldn’t have done the movie without her. Didn’t and wouldn’t.”

Queen Latifah Wants the Clanging and Banging of Kids

queenlatifahQueen Latifah has never backed down from a challenge. The next challenge the actress and singer wants to take on is adding children to her family.

She says, "I've always wanted to have [babies] and adopt. When I was little, I remember seeing TV shows and a child would be adopted and be happy. I just always felt like there are so many kids out there who need a parent. I want to be that household where everybody's kids hang out. As long as you can tolerate the noise and the clanging and banging, it's cool. To me, it's good energy.

She's already perfecting the "mom look" to help discipline her future kids.

She jokes, "I hope to have that skill when I have kids. I can give them that one look [menacingly narrows her eyes] and they'll straighten right up, because that's what my mom was known for."

Her mother, Rita Owens, shares her daughter's desire to add to the family and wants to see the next generation sooner rather than later. Ms. Owens says, "[Dana] always said she wants at least seven children. I used to harass her like, 'I want to be a cool grandmother, Dana. I want to be able to ride horses and swim.' [Now] I say, 'Looks like we're going to be wheelchairing the grandkids around at this point...' She's like, 'Ma, I'm working on it!' "

Gwen Stefani Partners With HP to Foster Creativity

I've had it on my to-do list for a while to check out the promotion currently running for Gwen Stefani and HP to foster creativity.

There are some really fun activities to try out with your kids here that are inspired by Gwen and her creative spirit.

Gwen Stefani with HP

The site which is a joint project between Gwen and HP, has a collection of interactive, kid-friendly projects featuring the creative mom.
You can customize your own CD labels, greeting cards, and flyers designed by Gwen or put your family photos in the one-of-a-kind Gwen Stefani Sweet Escape Tour Book. You and your kids can even create little Harajuku Girl paper dolls or cards. (See my 4-year-old's rendition of me below.)

All of the projects are as simple as picking out your design and printing the finished product. Definitely a fun way to spend some time with your kids online.

Isaac Hanson's Scary Reality Check

Isaac HansonIsaac Hanson, 26, had recently celebrated his first wedding anniversary and the birth of his son Everett. Little did he know the scary turn his life was going to take as he got ready to take the stage at the House of Blues in Dallas, TX with his brothers Zac, 22, and Taylor, 24.

"My shoulder started to irritate me," he says of the recent events. Writing it off as a routine ache, he popped an aspirin and hit the stage. Midway through the concert his arm was purple and swollen.

"I felt panic - without screaming," he says. "I said 'We've got to find a hospital. Immediately."

The next day, Hanson found himself in surgery for a life threatening blot clot due to pulmonary embolism.

His wife Nikki says, "It's a big reality check. We're in our 20's... You don't think about dying."

As Isaac faced the reality of his medical situation, his mind turned to his 6-month-old son Everett. "I told my wife. 'If only Everett was her. I bet he could fix my troubles. When we talked about Everett, we both started crying. Because what if something happened? He would not have a father... I was freaking out on the inside."

The clot was successfully removed on October 4th and Hanson is now on blood thinners that should prevent future clots.

Eva Mendes Not Pregnant, Just Hungry

Eva MendesActress Eva Mendes is definitely not interested in adding kids to her life right now.

“Could you imagine me having a kid right now, where I’m like ‘hey Junior, come here?'” Mendes said at her Gotham magazine party held at NYC's Buddha Bar. “What a pain in the butt. Maybe in the future, but certainly, certainly not now.”

Rumors started a few weeks ago when the actress was reportedly photographed leaving a prenatal yoga studio with a round belly.

The real story?

“I had a huge pasta lunch, I walked out, and let it all hang out like I usually do,” she says. “This photographer came out and shot it, and you know what? I give him credit because it actually looks like I could be a little bit. But I just had a big lunch, that’s it.”

Elisabeth Hasslebeck Taking Early Maternity Leave

Elisabeth HasslebeckJust days after announcing that she would be leaving for materntiy leave in early November, Elisabeth Hasslebeck has changed her plans and will be leaving The View early on October 23rd. The change is a result of husband Tim Hasslebeck signing a contrack with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals. Elisabeth wants to familiarize herself with a new OB/GYN in Arizona prior to the baby's arrival in November.

"When he got this call, I saw Tim, I saw him on the phone, I saw his adrenaline get going again," Hasselbeck said on Barbara Walter's Sirus radio program. "This is what he's meant to do."

"I have to take early maternity leave so that I can get there and actually introduce the doctor to my parts, before she pulls a child out of me," she said.

The family move doesn't mean a permanent exit from The View for Elisabeth. "I'll be back, after the hiatus. Don't get excited that the Republican is gone so soon, ladies! I will be back to torture you all."

The family is happy with the timing of the move coinciding the baby's arrival.

"Now that I'm having this baby when I am, I can actually be with Tim and [2-year-old daughter] Grace. We can be together and expand the family. It's a good thing."

Anthony Kiedis Talks About Everly Bear

Anthony KiedisRed Hot Chili Peppers frontman, Anthony Kiedis, confirmed rumors that he has welcomed a son named Everly Bear. The name was inspired by his own music roots.

"We had a long list of names, but I suppose it came to me by way of the Everly Brothers, which is one of my favorite bands," says Kiedis. "And sometimes last names make good first names."

Kiedis's girlfriend Heather Christie came up with the very unique middle name.

"The mama came up with Bear," Kiedis says. "That made sense to me because he's from me and I feel like I'm part of the bear clan, and I think it's nice to have a little bit of earth in your name."

The couple have been busy adapting to life with a baby since Everly's arrival on October 2nd.

"Being a father is different, it's much different," Kiedis says. "I sleep when I can, but he's letting me off pretty easy so far. He's a very calm and peaceful kid."
