Alexis Stewart Faces Fertility Treatments Head-on

Alexis Stewart is facing fertility treatments with the same determination she used to become a successful business woman. She will talk with Oprah Winfrey today about the emotional and financial struggles involved with facing her fertility issues.

Stewart is so determined to get pregnant that she spends $28,000 per month on feritlity treatments. Alexis started the challenging process last year and is determined to see it through evenn though her eggs are "dry and crusty."

It took her a while to decide she was ready to be a mom, so long that it's almost too late for her. She admits that she had placed motherhood on the back burner while she settled into a successful career and weathered relationship highs-and-lows.

"[We] get distracted because now we have jobs, and now we have other things to do. Medicine seems miraculous – you can do anything you want," she says. "Movie stars have babies late. It seems all possible, but you don't hear the stories of the people who can't have a baby."

Now, she's ready to do whatever it takes to get pregnant. "Twice, I've given myself shots on the street. I'm much more interested in taking my medication than in what anyone might think about me," she said.

Despite her efforts, she has had three failed egg implantations. "Last month, I had no eggs that were viable, so I'm sort of back to square one at the moment," she says.

Alexis says that her mom "desperately" wants grandchildren. She admits received a lot of support -- finanically and emotionally -- from mom, Marth Stewart. "She's very supportive. She tells me it will happen all the time," she says.

For now, she continues with her daily fertility treatment but will think about other options later if they don't work.
